“Canadian striker Promise David joins Brighton on record deal”

Promising forward Promise David has secured a move to the Premier League with Brighton & Hove Albion. The Canadian striker has joined on a season-long loan from Union Saint-Gilloise in Belgium, with an obligation to be purchased for $29.7 million US upon meeting certain conditions.

Union Saint-Gilloise confirmed that David will be playing in the Premier League starting from the upcoming season, setting a new transfer record for the Belgian club. David arrives at Brighton following a successful spell at Union, where he notched 41 goals in 82 appearances and contributed to the club’s first league title in 90 years in 2025. He extended his contract with Union through June 2029.

The 25-year-old recently featured for Canada in the World Cup, scoring a goal despite limited playing time due to a hip injury. He has also represented the Canadian national team, scoring four goals in 14 matches. Born in Brampton, Ontario, to Nigerian parents, David initially played for Nigeria’s under-23 team before switching allegiance to Canada after FIFA approval in 2025.

Brighton sees David as a valuable addition to their squad, with Sporting Director Mike Cave praising his goal-scoring ability and international experience. The club is eager to witness David’s growth in their setup as he enters the peak years of his career. Brighton, a mainstay in the Premier League for nine consecutive seasons, finished in eighth place in the league standings last season.
