Trisha Goddard has revealed she is having palliative care in the Celebrity Big Brother house following her terminal breast cancer diagnosis. The talk show star, 67, who shot to fame with her show, Trisha, on ITV in 1998, revealed last year that her cancer had returned after recovering from the disease in 2008.
Despite now having Stage Four cancer, Trisha is continuing to make the most out of life and insists she doesn’t want to be seen as victim, despite “having a bag full of meds” which will be with her in the house as she courageously deals with her diagnosis.
Revealing she will ‘jumping on a plane as soon as the show is over’ to have an infusion, she told the Mirror: “So my oncologist is my biggest cheerleader and is working with the Big Brother team. I’ve got a special therapist who’s happy to work with the medic on the show.
“My palliative care team – and when I say that word everybody screams and runs away, but it’s symptom treatment – is working with the team here too. And then when it comes to my treatment, I had one infusion on Monday, so I’ve got to jump on a plane and go straight back to have the next one as soon as the show is over.
“I’ve got a bag full of meds that I normally have which will be with me in the house. So my oncologist has planned my treatment around the production schedule.”
Viewers were blown away with the star’s positive attitude when she explained she was going on Celebrity Big Brother to inspire others also living with the disease as she made her debut on the ITV show last night.
Speaking to hosts, AJ Odudu and Will Best, Trisha said: “It’s my new normal. I’m going into the Big Brother house to show you can’t be so scared of dying that you become frightened of living.”
Explaining she’s been asked to do the show each year, but always turned it down until her daughter pointed out she could use it inform people about the realities of cancer, she told us: “I’ve been asked to do it every single year, and I’ve always thought: ‘Are you kidding me?’
“When I told my daughter she made a really good point. I’ve got my Instagram and I’ve really been banging on about the language used when it comes to cancer and about services that are needed so people can live their best lives. I shout into Instagram but being on Big Brother would show people how you can live successfully with cancer and not be so scared of dying that you become scared of living. So that’s why I’m doing it.”
Taking to social media following her CBB debut, fans praised the mum-of-two for her bravery, as one took to X saying: “It’s so brave of her to go in given her prognosis and to share that with the nation.”
Another said: “Wow what a brave woman Trisha is. Hats off to her.” Meanwhile, a third added: “All love to Trisha Goddard.
“Literally losing her life and taking all opportunities coming to her to live her life and have all the experiences she can.”
