JD Vance made controversial comments regarding the victim of a shooting, accusing her of being “brainwashed” and “radicalized,” and shifting blame for her own demise. The US Vice President aimed to calm tensions following the tragic incident involving Renee Good, who was shot by an ICE agent in Minneapolis. However, during a sudden press briefing at the White House, he alleged that the 37-year-old mother of three intentionally tried to strike the agent, prompting his act of self-defense, resulting in her tragic death.
These statements followed previous claims by Donald Trump, suggesting the shooter had sustained injuries during the event and had sought medical treatment, despite footage showing him moving freely at the crime scene before departing in a vehicle. When questioned about potentially influencing an ongoing investigation, he dismissed concerns, asserting confidence in his account of events, despite contradicting views from sources outside the Trump administration. Video evidence indicates that Good was attempting to maneuver her vehicle away from the agent when he discharged his firearm.
Vance further asserted, without substantiation, that Good was affiliated with a “radical left network” obstructing ICE operations conducting deportations. He contended that she had been “brainwashed” and “radicalized,” despite reports indicating she was simply heading home after dropping off her child at school, with no history of activism as per her ex-husband’s statement.
In response to criticisms regarding the video evidence, Vance insisted that multiple angles confirmed his interpretation, emphasizing Good’s alleged direct collision with the agent. He criticized the media for overlooking the agent’s previous encounters with vehicle collisions, a claim impossible to verify as the agent’s identity remained undisclosed.
Regarding the investigation into the shooting, Vance suggested the need to uncover the forces behind Good’s alleged manipulation and emphasized the exclusion of local law enforcement from the inquiry. Instead, the FBI, under the oversight of Trump appointee Kash Patel, will exclusively lead the investigation, as confirmed by Homeland Security Secretary, sidelining Minnesota authorities due to purported lack of jurisdiction.
