A brave student recounted his courageous actions inside the engulfed Le Constellation bar in a selfless attempt to save lives. Ferdinand Du Beaudiez, a 19-year-old finance and economics student at Munich University, was among a group of seven, including his brother and girlfriend, when a fire broke out on New Year’s Eve.
Ferdinand described witnessing the fire starting from champagne bottles igniting the isolating foam roof. Despite his efforts to extinguish it with water, the fire quickly spread. He then tried to evacuate people, including his girlfriend, from the escalating inferno.
As the situation worsened, Ferdinand found himself trapped inside but managed to rescue an unconscious individual before succumbing to the smoke. Despite the harrowing experience, he courageously re-entered the burning bar to save more lives, emphasizing the chaotic and war-like scenes he encountered.
Following the tragic incident, Swiss authorities are investigating the cause of the fire that claimed the lives of around 40 people and injured 115 during the New Year’s celebration at the Alpine ski resort. Ferdinand’s brother remains hospitalized in a coma, while his other friends are conscious and receiving care.
Ferdinand’s account detailed the chaotic aftermath, where he and his friends assisted emergency responders in tending to the injured. The community has since come together to mourn the victims, with tributes left near the Constellation bar and prayers offered at the local church.
The survivors’ resilience and collective efforts in the face of the tragedy have highlighted the importance of unity and support in times of crisis.
