“Grandfather Freed from Dubai Prison After UN Ruling”

A grandfather from the UK has been released from a high-security prison in Dubai after spending four years behind bars. Albert Douglas, who was wrongly imprisoned over debts he did not owe, endured harrowing experiences during his time in jail, witnessing disturbing incidents and suffering mistreatment.

Radha Stirling, the founder of Detained in Dubai, expressed relief at Mr. Douglas’ safe return to London. She highlighted the efforts made to raise his case in Parliament, involving discussions with top officials while also facing neglect from certain authorities.

Following a United Nations decision that deemed his detention in Dubai unlawful, Albert Douglas, 63, was able to return home for Christmas. The UN ruled in favor of his release and compensation by the UAE after he had endured physical abuse and torture during his imprisonment.

Stirling emphasized the importance of international pressure in securing Mr. Douglas’ release and highlighted the broader issue of wrongful imprisonments in the UAE. The case sheds light on the need for improved support and warnings for British citizens abroad to prevent similar injustices in the future.

Albert’s son Wolfgang expressed immense relief at his father’s release, likening it to winning the lottery. Evidence emerged proving Mr. Douglas’ innocence regarding the bounced company cheques that led to his arrest.

Prior to his arrest, Albert Douglas had been living a prosperous life in Dubai, running a successful business. However, his life took a drastic turn in 2019 when he was wrongly implicated in financial troubles related to his son’s company, leading to his imprisonment.

Wolfgang, who tirelessly fought for his father’s release, highlighted the emotional toll the ordeal took on him and his family. He described the long battle to clear his father’s name and the relief felt upon his safe return home.

The successful resolution of Albert Douglas’ case serves as a reminder of the challenges British citizens may face abroad and the importance of advocacy and support in such situations.
