“Conjoined Twin Aruna Rodrigues Dies After Surgery Complications”

A tragic incident unfolded as a conjoined twin, Aruna Rodrigues, passed away on Christmas Eve following a lengthy hospital stay post a complex separation surgery in Goiania, Brazil. The operation, which took place in May to separate her from her sister, Kiraz, lasted 19 hours and involved a specialized medical team. Both Aruna and Kiraz were 18 months old at the time of the surgery and were born conjoined at the thorax, abdomen, and pelvis.

Despite initially showing signs of improvement after being moved to a hospital ward on December 10, Aruna’s condition deteriorated due to severe respiratory complications. She was then transferred back to intensive care where she succumbed to a viral infection and septic shock on December 24. Lead surgeon Zacharias Calil shared the heartbreaking news on social media, expressing deep sorrow for the loss and acknowledging the family’s courageous battle for their Siamese twins.

Aruna’s father, Alessandro Rodrigues, revealed that his daughter faced various medical procedures and surgeries, overcoming many challenges, but ultimately could not survive the recent infection after being transferred from the intensive care unit. The hospital authorities extended their support to the family and ensured they received both medical and psychological assistance throughout Aruna’s treatment. They continue to offer psychological support to the grieving family and have requested privacy during this difficult period.
