“British Gas Expert Reveals Oven Hack for Winter Warmth”

An expert from British Gas has shared a tip on how to keep your home warm without using your central heating.

Energy engineer Jessica Rawstron recommends leaving your oven door open after cooking to make use of the residual heat escaping from the appliance.

Jessica suggests, “Instead of closing the oven door after cooking, keep it open to allow the heat to slowly spread into your kitchen.

“This method can help maintain a warm atmosphere in your house while you enjoy your meal. Also, ensure to keep children and pets away from the oven door.”

British Gas also provides tips on winter home preparation, such as sealing gaps around windows and doors to prevent drafts.

To ensure efficient heating, regularly bleed your radiators and schedule an annual boiler service.

As temperatures drop in the UK, yellow warnings for snow and ice have been issued in various regions.

Households are advised to monitor their energy usage as energy bills have increased, with the average annual cost for gas and electricity reaching £1,758 for direct debit payments.

The price cap regulates unit rates and standing charges but not the total energy cost, which depends on individual usage and tariff type.

For those on pre-payment meters, the price cap is now set at £1,711 annually, while bill payment customers can expect to pay £1,894 per year.

The price cap is subject to quarterly updates, with the next revision scheduled for April 2026.
