“Disneyland Monorail Evacuated Due to Power Outage”

A power outage led to a large-scale evacuation on the Disneyland Monorail, requiring around 60 individuals to disembark after the train halted close to the Space Mountain attraction. Anaheim police reported that emergency personnel employed ladders to safely remove passengers, with no injuries reported.

Anaheim Fire Department members carefully guided passengers down a narrow walkway from the monorail track, where a fire engine with an extended ladder was stationed for assistance. A spokesperson from Disneyland Resorts mentioned that the monorail encountered a power failure on Thursday afternoon, affecting two trains. By 7 pm, all riders had been successfully evacuated. One visitor stranded on the ride indicated that the power outage occurred around 3:30 pm.

The Disneyland monorail, which spans a 2.5-mile elevated track above the park, operates every 10 minutes, offering a 13-minute round-trip journey past prominent attractions such as Fantasyland, Tomorrowland, Hollywood Land, the Grand Californian Hotel, and the Downtown Disney District.

According to information on the Disneyland website, the monorail, an innovative transportation system in America, combines classic 1959 aesthetics with contemporary technologies and design enhancements. The current model, known as the Red, Blue, and Orange Mark VII trains, operates on a 600-volt DC power source, ensuring minimal environmental impact.

Originally conceived as an attraction, the monorail transitioned into a functional transport system by 1961, ferrying guests to and from the adjacent Disneyland Hotel. Following multiple upgrades, the park introduced its latest line of train cars for attendees between 2008 and 2009.

In a separate incident in November 2025 at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida, the Monorail Silver experienced an electrical issue near the Grand Floridian Resort, resulting in smoke emanating between two train cabins. Prompt action by fire crews extinguished the fire and facilitated the evacuation of passengers from the suspended track, causing a temporary disruption as visitors had to rely on alternate transportation modes like buses, boats, and ferries.
