“Mother and Daughter Die from Suspected Food Poisoning in Italy”

A tragic incident occurred in Pietracatella, Italy, where a woman and her 15-year-old daughter passed away after consuming a meal believed to be contaminated. The victims, Antonella Di Ielsi, 50, and Sara Di Vita, reportedly partook in a Christmas dinner that included fish, mussels, and mushrooms. Subsequently, they developed fulminant hepatitis, which led to liver failure due to suspected food poisoning.

Following the dinner, both individuals experienced symptoms like nausea and abdominal pain. Sara sought medical attention twice at the emergency room before eventually succumbing to her illness at Cardarelli Hospital. Shortly after, Antonella also exhibited similar symptoms and was taken to the hospital, where she tragically passed away.

Medical professionals at Cardarelli Hospital expressed shock at the rapid deterioration of the victims’ health, despite their best efforts to provide care. The family’s father, Ganni Di Vita, also fell ill and is currently under care at Spallanzani Hospital in Rome. Fortunately, their 18-year-old daughter, who did not dine with them that evening, remains unaffected.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, collecting food samples from the family’s home for analysis. Autopsies have been ordered to determine the cause of poisoning. The community is grieving over the loss, with the village mayor extending condolences and support to the affected family.

Meanwhile, a vigil was held by local villagers at the hospital, and Christmas events were cancelled in light of the tragedy. Five doctors from Cardarelli Hospital are being investigated for potential negligence in the case. The prosecutor overseeing the inquiry aims to uncover the source of contamination and prevent similar tragedies from occurring in the future.
