Samsung TV owners in the UK are set to receive a significant upgrade at no extra cost, providing them with a variety of bonus content to enjoy. UKTV has recently announced that its popular free-to-air linear channels will soon be accessible on Samsung screens, allowing viewers in the UK to watch these channels without the need for additional devices for the first time.
The channels will be streamed over the internet, eliminating the requirement for a traditional aerial connection. As part of the agreement, Samsung will introduce a dedicated section on its home screen to showcase content from the U streaming service, making it easier for users to discover and watch classic comedies, dramas, and factual shows without navigating through menus or settings.
In the upcoming months, channels such as U&DRAMA, U&Dave, U&Yesterday, U&W, and U&Eden will also be accessible directly through a deep link from Samsung’s Universal Guide into the U app.
Samsung has stated that this rollout will reach millions of its TVs, with the channels being featured in the platform’s ‘Live’ tab and Universal Guide, ensuring that UKTV’s live and on-demand content remains visible for viewers who rely on internet-based TV services.
Jonathan Newman, General Manager of Commercial at UKTV and BBC Studios UK and Ireland, emphasized that the new agreement further solidifies the partnership between UKTV and Samsung, making the U app more accessible to Samsung customers and ensuring that UKTV’s diverse content remains prominently displayed across video-on-demand and live channels.
Dan Harvie, Vice President of Home Entertainment and Appliances at Samsung UK and Ireland, highlighted the importance of UKTV in enriching the entertainment offerings on Samsung TVs. He expressed Samsung’s commitment to enhancing the entertainment experience for customers by providing access to a wide range of broadcast content through partnerships like the one with UKTV.
Although an official launch date has not been disclosed, the enhanced features are anticipated to roll out on Samsung TVs soon, enhancing the viewing experience for users.
