Russian Couple Brutally Murdered in Dubai Crypto Kidnapping

Kidnappers reportedly subjected a Russian man, Roman Novak, and his wife Anna to a horrific ordeal, forcing them to witness each other’s suffering before their brutal murders. The couple disappeared after being deceived by individuals posing as potential investors in the Hatta resort near Dubai. Their dismembered bodies were later found in a desert in Dubai.

According to Russian media, the captors coerced Roman and Anna into revealing access codes to their cryptocurrency wallets, which were later found to be empty. The perpetrators then allegedly murdered the couple in a gruesome manner. Subsequently, the bodies were placed in heavy polyethylene bags and treated with strong chemicals to expedite decomposition and eliminate DNA evidence.

The victims were buried in the desert close to the Oman border, where they were discovered weeks later following a missing persons report. It is suspected that the couple may have been targeted due to the success of a cryptocurrency app developed by Roman called Fintopio, which garnered significant investments. However, Roman faced accusations of defrauding investors, leading to a possible motive for the abduction and murders.

Svetlana Petrenko, a representative of the Russian Investigative Committee, revealed that the killers had accomplices who assisted in orchestrating the abduction and disposing of evidence. Three individuals, including former police officer Konstantin Shakht, have been arrested in St. Petersburg in connection with the case. While two of the suspects have confessed, Shakht denies any involvement. All defendants remain in custody pending further legal proceedings.
