“Fatalities amid Costa del Sol storms; body found, one still missing”

Fierce storms lashing the Costa del Sol this week have resulted in a confirmed fatality. One of the two individuals who went missing after being carried away by the current in Malaga has been discovered deceased. This development comes in the wake of red weather alerts issued in the region recently.

The duo vanished last night in Alhaurín el Grande. The body of one of the men was located this afternoon several kilometers away from the spot where their van, bearing significant damage, was found in the Fahala River.

The alarm was raised this morning upon the report of two town residents, aged 53 and 54, going missing. They were last sighted leaving a restaurant last night en route to Malaga, boarding the vehicle headed towards Las Lomas. It is suspected that, due to the floods, they abandoned the vehicle to attempt to proceed on foot.

Efforts are ongoing to locate the other missing man. Approximately 100 individuals, including security force personnel and organized volunteers, are participating in the search operation, covering the entire stretch of the Fahala River and its estuary.

Contributors to the search operation include members of the Civil Guard, Local Police, Civil Protection volunteers, Provincial Firefighters Consortium (CPB), and other resources mobilized by the City Council. The Subdelegation of the Central Government in Malaga has detailed the deployment of patrols, helicopters, and the Special Group for Underwater Activities (GEAS).

Canine units from the SOS Desaparecidos Association have also joined the search efforts. The council has affirmed that the search will persist for as long as needed and has urged citizens to exercise caution.

Moreover, a motorcyclist was swept away while attempting to cross a stream in the town of Íllora (Granada) this Sunday. The man, part of a group of three motorcyclists traversing the Cañada stream in the Sierra de Parapanda area, was carried off by the elevated water levels resulting from the storm and is presently unaccounted for.
