A family expressed deep disappointment as their plans for a Christmas Day pub meal were abruptly canceled. Despite booking a table for nine at The Saracens Head in Meir back in September, their longstanding tradition was unexpectedly disrupted. The absence of the usual deposit request, the departure of the previous landlord in November, and a temporary closure followed by reopening added to their suspicions.
The family, who frequented the gastropub for the past five years, usually paid a modest deposit per adult to secure their reservation. However, this year, no deposit was requested, leading to concern. Upon discovering the change in management and the venue’s decision not to host Christmas dinners, the family found themselves without a festive dining option just a few weeks before the holiday.
Their disappointment was palpable, with one family member expressing feeling let down by the lack of communication and proper notice. The last-minute cancellation left them scrambling to find an alternative venue for their Christmas feast, ultimately resigning to celebrating at home. Concerns were raised about other families possibly facing similar surprises if unaware of the changes.
The family conveyed their dissatisfaction with the situation, vowing not to return to the establishment due to what they perceived as inadequate customer service and communication. While awaiting a statement from Valiant Pub Company, the pub itself issued a social media post addressing upcoming menu changes and expressing regret over the Christmas Day debacle.
Apologies were extended to affected patrons, with reassurances that efforts were underway to reach out to those with existing bookings. The pub acknowledged the inconvenience caused and thanked customers for their patience during the transitional phase.
