“Nigel Farage Under Fire for Ignoring Racism Allegations”

Nigel Farage faces criticism for ignoring racism allegations against a party candidate who suggested that David Lammy should return to the Caribbean. Pressure is increasing on the Reform leader to take action against Chris Parry following the revelation of the controversial statement over a week ago. Richard Tice, Farage’s deputy, declined to denounce the candidate despite being presented with the offensive comment.

David Lammy, a London-born Deputy Prime Minister, has urged Reform to address what he describes as “1950s-style hate.” Labour chairwoman Anna Turley has written a letter to Farage, demanding the removal of Parry as a candidate for the Hampshire and Solent mayoral position, citing the party’s obligation to address racism within its ranks.

The controversy stems from a tweet by Parry in February, insinuating that Lammy’s loyalty lies in the Caribbean. During an interview on Talk TV, Parry evaded questions about the post, emphasizing that a government official’s primary allegiance should be to the UK.

Reform MP Danny Kruger refrained from condemning Parry, citing lack of context, while Tice claimed ignorance of the situation during a press conference. Turley criticized Reform for failing to take action against Parry despite the passage of time and the candidate’s refusal to apologize or clarify his remarks.

Turley emphasized that racial remarks have no place in politics, pointing out Reform’s past actions against members making similar statements. Keir Starmer mentioned the incident during PMQs, accusing Farage of fostering discord and disunity.

Overall, the controversy surrounding Parry’s comment underscores the ongoing debate over racism in political discourse and highlights the need for parties to address such issues promptly and decisively.
