“UK Safeguards 40,000 Jobs with Latest Nissan LEAF Launch”

The newest iteration of the world’s pioneering mass-produced electric vehicle quietly entered production today, safeguarding nearly 40,000 jobs throughout the UK.

Manufactured at a rapid pace of one car per minute in Sunderland, Tyne and Wear, the third generation Nissan LEAF is the result of a substantial £450m investment aimed at securing the future of workers and creating potential for up to 2,000 new jobs alongside the existing 7,000 within Nissan UK and the 30,000 in its supply chain.

During a tour of the Sunderland production line, Jamie Williams, a senior supervisor, emphasized the significance of the new model to his hometown and the extensive workforce spanning London, Rickmansworth, Herts., and Cranfield, Beds.

Guy Reid, a production engineering director from Whitley Bay, North Tyneside, highlighted the pride and impact felt across the country due to the introduction of the new model.

Jess Brown, a logistics section manager from Tyneside, underscored the ripple effect of job creation stemming from the new model’s production, offering stability to numerous workers in the industry.

The manufacturing process witnessed by The Mirror showcased meticulous quality checks and swift installation of components, including cutting-edge technology enhancing the LEAF’s range and performance.

Max Messina, Nissan’s Chair in Europe, lauded the significance of the day as a milestone in the evolution of electric vehicles, emphasizing the LEAF’s role in revolutionizing the market and reducing carbon emissions.

Production of the ‘EV36Zero’ model involves advanced technologies such as virtual reality, high-tech robots, and automated facilities, symbolizing a leap forward in automotive manufacturing.

The Government’s commitment to supporting electric vehicle production through initiatives like the Electric Vehicle Cluster Fund and infrastructure development underscores a significant investment in the country’s economy.

Adam Pennick, Nissan’s vice president for manufacturing, expressed gratitude towards partners and the dedicated workforce, acknowledging their pivotal role in the company’s success over the past four decades.
