Mercedes’ head of communications has revealed that team principal Toto Wolff has been communicating with former driver Lewis Hamilton to provide assistance during a tough season at Ferrari. The seven-time world champion has been struggling to adjust to the team, dealing with a below-par car and questionable race strategies.
Hamilton faced significant challenges at the recent Grand Prix in Qatar, being knocked out in Q1 of qualifying and finishing outside the points in 12th place despite a comeback effort during the race. Currently placed sixth in the drivers’ standings, Hamilton risks dropping to seventh after the upcoming race in Abu Dhabi.
Expressing disappointment with his debut season at Ferrari, Hamilton has openly expressed his frustration, labeling 2025 as the “worst season ever” and highlighting the unexpected nature of his difficulties. Despite giving his all both on and off the track, the seasoned driver has found the season particularly challenging.
Recognizing Hamilton’s struggles, his former team Mercedes has extended personal support. Mercedes’ chief communications officer, Bradley Lord, confirmed that they have been in discussions to assist Hamilton during this trying period, with Wolff accompanying him to race locations to offer guidance and encouragement.
In a statement to CHAMP1, Lord emphasized their empathy for Hamilton’s situation, acknowledging his dedication and the inevitable highs and lows in a driver’s career. He underlined their efforts to back Hamilton in his journey, believing in his potential to bounce back and regain his competitive edge.
Hamilton is now preparing for the final race of the season in Abu Dhabi, aiming to secure his sixth-place position in the drivers’ standings with 152 points, closely trailed by Kimi Antonelli with 150 points. This race marks the conclusion of his time with the current Ferrari model, which has presented numerous challenges.
Despite the current difficulties, Ferrari’s team principal, Fred Vasseur, has encouraged the team to strive for success and maintain a positive outlook. Reflecting on the Qatar Grand Prix, Vasseur emphasized the need for the team to focus on maximizing their performance and learning from their setbacks to improve in the future.
Ferrari is eager to end the season on a positive note before shifting their focus towards the upcoming 2026 campaign.
