A woman who pretended to have a baby to deceive her family and friends has reportedly left her residence and gone into seclusion. Kira Cousins from Airdrie in Scotland faced backlash online after tricking her loved ones into thinking a plastic doll was her newborn baby. She had convincingly worn a fake pregnancy bump for months before simulating a solo childbirth.
The 22-year-old’s deception was exposed when her family members discovered that her supposed infant, named Bonnie-Leigh Joyce, was actually a lifelike Reborn doll found by her mother in her bedroom. Outraged family and friends who had purchased gifts for the baby were left feeling betrayed. To avoid the fallout, Kira is said to have vacated the home she shared with her mother in Airdrie, Lanarkshire.
According to a former friend speaking to The Sun, Kira has been absent for days, leaving many unanswered questions about her actions. The friend expressed concern for Kira’s well-being, stating that she likely needs professional help. The situation has caused a rift between Kira and her mother, who was deeply hurt by the deception as this was to be her first grandchild.
Leading up to the fabricated birth on October 10, Kira had shared images of baby scans and videos from a lavish gender reveal party. She fabricated tales of giving birth to a daughter weighing 5lbs 4oz. Prior to the faux birth, Kira posted what seemed to be computer-generated videos of the “baby” moving in her belly and displayed gifts from loved ones, including an expensive pram and car seat.
Eventually, Kira admitted to her deceit, confessing to fabricating scans, messages, and an entire birth story while passing off a doll as her real baby. She acknowledged the gravity of her actions, attributing them to her mental state and expressing remorse for hurting those who believed her lies.
Friends of Kira became suspicious when they noticed inconsistencies, such as the absence of the baby’s cries in a video and Kira’s refusal to allow anyone to touch the baby, citing health concerns. Conversations and screenshots shared online revealed the extent of Kira’s deception, causing deep disappointment and feelings of betrayal among those close to her.
