“Williams’ Right of Review Appeal Hearing Set for September 12”

The FIA has set a date and time for Williams’ appeal to be heard by the Formula 1 stewards. Williams initiated a right of review process following the penalty imposed on Carlos Sainz during the Dutch Grand Prix last month.

Sainz expressed frustration at Zandvoort after being penalized for a collision with Liam Lawson, receiving a 10-second time penalty and two points on his racing license. He contested the decision over radio and met with the stewards post-race. At the Italian Grand Prix, it was revealed that Williams had requested a right of review hearing.

The FIA announced that the hearing will take place on Friday, September 12, at 2:30 pm UK time, allowing the Zandvoort stewards to convene virtually via video conference. While the time penalty cannot be overturned as Sainz served it during a pit stop, Williams aims to reverse the two penalty points.

Team principal James Vowles aims for a transparent dialogue with the stewards to clarify future racing guidelines. Historically, winning right of review hearings has been challenging, with the FIA mostly upholding decisions in recent cases.

The hearing will follow a two-part process, requiring Williams to present new, significant evidence. If the stewards acknowledge this element, a representative from Lawson’s Racing Bulls team will also participate.

Williams currently ranks fifth in the constructors’ championship with 86 points, facing competition from Racing Bulls, placed seventh with 61 points, and Aston Martin with one point more.
