The King and Prince of Wales are likely planning separate trips to the United States next year to engage with US President Donald Trump. Talks about the King’s visit are in progress, while Prince William is anticipated to visit during the FIFA World Cup in a different timeframe. These visits are timed to coincide with significant events such as the 250th anniversary of the US declaration of independence, the Fourth of July celebrations, and ongoing negotiations for a UK trade deal with the US.
As reported by The Times, the King’s potential visit may happen in April, marking the first visit by a British monarch since 2007. It would also be Prince Charles’ first visit to the US since his son, Prince Harry, relocated to California in 2020. On the other hand, Prince William, serving as the president of the Football Association, might attend the World Cup scheduled between June and July in the US, Canada, and Mexico.
While William visited the US in 2023 for Earthshot Prize-related engagements, formal invitations for the upcoming trips have not been confirmed. The UK is striving to finalize a trade deal with the US, following a pause in tech partnership negotiations announced during President Trump’s state visit in September.
The UK and US are facing challenges in reaching a broader trade agreement, partly due to disagreements on issues like Britain’s digital services tax and US farmers’ market access. Nevertheless, Trump has shown admiration for the royal family, viewing them as crucial for diplomatic ties with the US. During his previous visit, Trump praised the King and also complimented Prince William and Kate Middleton at a state banquet.
The royal visits to the US are expected to strengthen diplomatic relations amid ongoing trade discussions and shared historical milestones.
