A mother suspected of killing her nine-year-old daughter and seven-year-old son amid a custody dispute with her ex-husband has been extradited to the United States to face charges. Kimberlee Singler, 37, has been brought back from the UK to face two counts of first-degree murder, with her court appearance scheduled in the US soon.
The tragic incident occurred in Colorado Springs, Colorado, where the children were found deceased in their home. Their older sister, then 11, survived with injuries and reportedly mentioned to an investigator that her mother claimed God compelled her to commit the act. Initially, Singler, who had minor knife wounds, blamed an intruder for the crime, but the surviving daughter later changed her story, leading to Singler’s arrest.
Adrian Vasquez, the Chief of Colorado Springs Police, expressed the significance of progress in the case, stating that Singler faces severe allegations that have deeply affected the community. Singler will remain in custody without bond pending a preliminary hearing to determine the next steps in the legal process.
The surviving child, now 13, is expected to play a crucial role as a witness in the trial. Singler, who resisted extradition and denied harming her children, was taken into custody by the FBI and local police in London. Her defense attorney in London argued against extradition, citing concerns about the potential sentence in the US.
Despite legal challenges, Singler’s extradition was approved, and she faces additional charges including attempted murder, child abuse, and assault. The investigation indicated inconsistencies in Singler’s account of the events leading to the tragic outcome, with GPS data supporting her ex-husband’s alibi at the time of the incident.
Court records revealed that Singler had been ordered by a judge to hand over custody of the children to their father before the tragedy occurred. Singler had requested a delay in the court hearing citing a recent attack on her and her children. The case has garnered widespread attention for its tragic nature and complex legal proceedings.
