A man faced a life-threatening situation when his stomach was severely injured by a sophisticated cocktail served at a company Christmas party. Attendees of the upscale event were treated to a dramatic “cryo-show” by an unidentified “celebrity chef” when the alarming incident occurred. The chef utilized liquid nitrogen to create showy cocktails, a common substance for quick freezing in professional kitchens but hazardous if consumed before complete evaporation.
Guests were reportedly not informed of the potential risks, and the chef allegedly prompted a man to drink the cocktail immediately. The individual collapsed at the Igra Stolov ‘Game of Tables’ cooking studio in Moscow, amidst laughter from the group. The man, identified as Sergey, 38, was observed in excruciating pain, clutching his stomach before being rushed to intensive care for emergency surgery to mend the torn stomach.
Although Sergey was conscious and recovering, medical professionals classified his condition as critical. It was determined that the liquid nitrogen caused a rapid gas expansion inside his body, resulting in a stomach rupture. The festive office celebration took a distressing turn as guests left in shock while medical personnel worked urgently to save the man’s life.
Drinks containing liquid nitrogen are safe only after complete evaporation of the nitrogen. Ingesting even a small amount of liquid nitrogen can be life-threatening due to its violent boiling nature at room temperature. The sudden gas expansion inside the body can lead to severe internal injuries, including stomach rupture, internal bleeding, and organ damage.
This incident follows the tragic death of a mother-of-three, Holly Hill, who passed away after unknowingly consuming a cocktail contaminated with “industrial cleaner.” During a Valentine’s Day date at a Mexican bar in Oklahoma in 2023, she suffered severe throat and esophagus damage, leading to multiple procedures over two years before her untimely demise in October.
Her family alleged that a margarita Holly had that night contained “industrial cleaning solution,” leading to a lawsuit against the bar that was settled privately earlier this year.
