“Man convicted in fatal shooting of pregnant girlfriend”

A man has been convicted of murdering his pregnant girlfriend, who refused to undergo an abortion. Donovan Faison, known as a monster by prosecutors, was found guilty of first-degree murder in the case of 18-year-old Kaylin Fiengo. The jury took only two hours to reach a verdict in the 2022 killing, where Kaylin was discovered dead in a parked car with a gunshot wound on November 11 of that year.

Authorities determined that Kaylin was approximately three months pregnant at the time of her death and had disagreements with Faison regarding her choice to keep the pregnancy. Prosecutors in Seminole County, Florida, are now pushing for the death penalty for Faison, with the sentencing scheduled for Wednesday.

Following an investigation into the incident, it was revealed that Kaylin had gone to Coastline Park with the intention of meeting someone she knew. At the time of her tragic death, she was also a mother to a 1-year-old boy.

Expressing relief at the conviction, Kaylin’s aunt, Tatiana Fiengo, stated, “We’ve been waiting a long time for this. It doesn’t bring her back, but at least he’s not out hurting other people.”

Statistics from US crime reports highlight that one in five homicide victims are killed by an intimate partner, with over half of female homicide victims being murdered by a current or former male intimate partner. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there were 1,361 homicides in Florida in 2023, resulting in a death rate of 6.5 per 100,000 individuals.

Comparatively, in the year ending March 2023, there were 590 homicide victims in England and Wales, which have a population nearly three times that of Florida, as reported by the Office for National Statistics.
