“Fugitive Husband Hunted in India for Wife’s Murder”

British authorities have deployed officers to India in pursuit of a fugitive husband accused of killing his wife in the United Kingdom. The victim, 24-year-old Harshita Brella, was strangled at her residence in Northamptonshire and later found in a vehicle in Ilford, East London, on November 14 last year. Before her tragic death, Harshita had approached the police for help, citing abuse from her spouse, Pankaj Lamba.

In an effort to trace Lamba, detectives traveled to India in July to meet with Harshita’s family and return her personal belongings. Detective Superintendent Johnny Campbell expressed condolences to the family and emphasized ongoing support for them. The Independent Office for Police Conduct is investigating Northamptonshire Police’s handling of the case.

Lamba, aged 23, reportedly flew to India from Heathrow airport shortly before the discovery of Harshita’s body. Surveillance footage captured him at a bank in Gurugram in March, where he withdrew a substantial sum of money. Harshita’s family has criticized the Northamptonshire police for lack of communication and has taken legal action in Delhi seeking government intervention.

A murder investigation was initiated after Harshita’s body was found in London, leading to the charging of Pankaj Lamba with her murder. With legal proceedings underway, detailed information about the case is limited. However, the UK authorities have informed their Indian counterparts of the charges. The investigation remains active, with a commitment to bring justice for Harshita.

Harshita’s mother, Sudesh Kumari, described her daughter as a simple and innocent individual who had expressed fear for her life before the tragic incident. She recounted Harshita’s concerns about her husband’s behavior and shared her daughter’s resolve not to return to him.
