Football Legend Gascoigne’s Battle with Bulimia and Injuries

Paul Gascoigne recently disclosed that his struggle with bulimia started at the age of 17. He candidly shared his ongoing battle with the eating disorder and his determination to stay in shape despite numerous injuries throughout his career.

The former football star faced a recent setback when he suffered a left knee injury while fishing earlier this year, resulting in the need for a knee brace. Gascoigne, 58, expressed his desire to maintain his physique, stating that he aims to avoid becoming an overweight retired footballer.

In an interview promoting his new book ‘Eight’, Gascoigne revealed the challenges he faces in staying fit after undergoing multiple surgeries to rebuild his body. He highlighted his history of 38 operations, with the most severe being a cruciate ligament injury to his left knee during the 1991 FA Cup final.

Additionally, Gascoigne shared his struggles with alcoholism, including a critical incident in 2013 when he underwent rehab in Arizona and nearly died during a medical procedure that required an injection to his heart. Despite these challenges, he admitted in a recent interview that giving up alcohol might be an ongoing struggle for him.

Gascoigne’s injury woes continued in 2021 when he injured his shoulder in a palm tree fall while filming the Italian version of ‘I’m a Celebrity,’ necessitating an air rescue off the coast of Honduras where the show was set.

Reflecting on his various injuries, Gascoigne humorously recalled a bizarre hernia incident during his time with Tottenham, causing him to joke about the size of his testicles due to the hernia. Despite the challenges he has faced, Gascoigne remains resilient and determined to maintain his physical well-being.

Gascoigne’s new book ‘Eight’ is set to be released on October 23.
