Actress Prunella Scales has passed away shortly after her husband, actor Timothy West. The Sybil star from Fawlty Towers died at the age of 93, following Timothy’s death in November 2024.
Their sons confirmed Prunella’s peaceful passing at her London home, stating that despite her retirement due to dementia after a nearly 70-year acting career, she continued living at home. The day before her death, she was watching Fawlty Towers. Survived by two sons, a stepdaughter, seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren, Prunella and Timothy married in 1963 and had a low-key wedding at Chelsea Registry Office. They later renewed their vows in 2003.
Timothy, known for his roles in Dad’s Army, Coronation Street, Gentleman Jack, and EastEnders, once revealed that he and Prunella struggled emotionally when out of work. Despite their successful acting careers, their marriage remained their greatest accomplishment. Prunella’s battle with Alzheimer’s disease was made public by Timothy in 2014, leading to their joint appearance in Great Canal Journeys until 2020.
Their relationship remained strong despite her condition, with Timothy expressing the gradual loss he witnessed in his wife. They focused on living day by day, cherishing the moments they could still enjoy together. The couple’s enduring love and companionship shone through even in the face of adversity.
