Jeffrey Epstein expressed fear about returning to his jail cell shortly before his suicide, as revealed in recently disclosed documents. The convicted sex offender was housed at the Metropolitan Correction Center in New York City awaiting trial for his crimes. Epstein confided in a psychologist about his apprehensions following a failed suicide attempt, indicating he was living in fear during his final days. The latest files released by the US Department of Justice shed light on Epstein’s mental state, including notes from a psychiatrist likening him to the character Rain Man from the movie “Rain Man.”
Reports indicate that Epstein tried to take his own life on July 23, 2019, with an assessment mentioning his erratic behavior in the days leading up to the incident. Concerns about returning to his cell, where he had unexplained marks on his neck, added to Epstein’s anxiety. Medical records also documented injuries on his neck and knee.
Nicholas Tartaglione, Epstein’s cellmate at the time, attempted to revive him during the incident and was later cleared of any involvement. Additionally, newly released files revealed that Epstein’s brother had contacted the FBI in February 2023, suggesting foul play in Epstein’s death, although no evidence has supported this claim.
Amid the release of these files, criticisms have been directed at Trump and the Department of Justice for delays in publicizing all documents as mandated by the Epstein Files Transparency Act. The recent disclosure represents only a small fraction of the extensive case files, images, and videos held by the FBI and DOJ related to the Epstein case.
